How to 916M? / How to NOSM?
So, how do we 916M?
Basically, it is very easy.
We will identify a couple of Focus Groups, and you can choose the Focus Group which you are interested in. You can participate on either of the following 2 levels:
- Steering Level of a Focus Group, or
- Support Level of Focus Group.
The Steering Level will comprise up to 8 members, out of which 2 shall be appointed, one as the Focus Group Head, and the other as the Focus Group Deputy.
To participate, all you need to do is to register by posting your interest in the relevant Focus Group Page, and state your interest at either the Steering Level or at the Support Level.
Basically, we would like to keep things simple and so, please work it out amongst yourselves as to who should be the Head, Deputy and other Steering Level members; for the others, you can just participate at the Support Level. (Not to worry, if you do not make it into a particular Focus Group Steering Level, just let us know your interest in other Focus Groups, and we will enlist you on a first-come-first-serve basis.)
Let us all not make this too political, let us all be constructive and supportive; we will just go with the basic principles of democracy. Let us make this worthwhile and valuable, and most of all, enjoyable because we are all doing this for the nation. (Of course, in time, as we grow, we probably will need some rules, and we will cross the bridge when we come to it.)
But do remember that it is most important that the Steering Level are made up of people who have expertise and experience, as well as interest in said Focus Group, so that they can guide the Focus Group appropriately. If you can only spare say just 10 minutes per day or 1 hour per week, and/or if you are interested in said Focus Group but do not have sufficient expertise or experience, we suggest that you offer yourself at the Support Leve.
Let us take an example; say that we have decided to form the 916 Petitions Focus Group. Say after some discussions, we are able to form the Steering Level of 8 members. The Steering Level will proceed to draft the relevant petitions, including getting the said petitions hosted on www.petitionsonline.com. Once done, an announcement is made, and then members of the Support Level will come in, and start promoting the petition, in order that say 1,000,000 petitioners sign up. The Support Level members will get down to doing their work, spending say 10 minutes per day or 1 hour per week, promoting the petition via SMS Campaigns, Email Campaigns and Blog Campaigns. Each time after they promote the petition, they can report their contributions in the relevant Focus Group Blog (within this 916Movement.wordpress.com blog), so that other members will be further encouraged, and this in turn will hopefully cause a viral outcome.
As noted, there will be enough to keep all of us occupied, so, just be patient.
Given that we would like to see quality work produced or quality initiatives implemented, the Focus Group Steering Level must remain responsible and answerable for the direction and quality of work and initiatives. Hence, if a particular member or if certain members of the Steering Level do not perform, they need not be recruited into the Steering Level come the next term. It is hereby proposed that the subsequent term commences every September 16.
